The NeuroScience Institute’s specialists will
communicate with your doctor at regular intervals and will be
notified if a patient is admitted to the hospital. In addition, your
physician will receive a discharge summary promptly upon your release.
Your Hospital Stay
If treatment at Mercy NeuroScience Institute requires
hospitalization, patients can be assured they are in the hands of health
care providers that stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the nation’s best. Quality at Mercy Health Center is proven and measurable in a
number of areas related to standards of patient care.
Health care
professionals with specialized knowledge are available throughout the
continuum of care at Mercy -- referrals to resources outside the system
are only necessary in a few instances, usually relating to the best
treatment option for a specific type of brain tumor. Conceived and
sponsored by Mercy NSI, this Care Coordination is done by a round-table
of city-wide experts that makes recommendations in the best interest of
the patient as determined by the panel.
Care at Mercy Health Center
General in-patient care is provided on a 27-bed dedicated ortho/neuro
unit. The unit has a patient to nurse ratio is 5 patients to one nurse
and nursing assistant and scores consistently in the top 10 % of the
nation according to Press-Ganey patient satisfaction surveys.
Intensive care of neuro-patients is provided in the 12-bed Neuro-Trauma
ICU, one of three specialty areas within Mercy Health Center’s 36-bed
ICU. All nurses are trained according to the core curriculum of the
American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
In-patient rehabilitation of neuro-patients is done on the 54-bed Mercy
Rehab Center. A “hospital-within-the-hospital,” this unit is the largest
rehab unit located on a single campus in Oklahoma City. Notably, Mercy
NSI has four physiatrists on staff. These board certified physicians
specialize in rehabilitation and physical medicine.
If rehab can be
accomplished on an out-patient basis, Mercy Health Center’s Outpatient
Rehabilitation Services Department provides Physical, Occupational, and
Speech Therapy at four separate locations. |
